All of our staff members are highly experienced and committed to providing animals with the loving, compassionate care they deserve!

Charmaine "Charlie" Brown, DVM

Charmaine “Charlie” Brown, DVM, owner of Annabessacook Veterinary Clinic, is originally from Nebraska. Dr. Brown graduated from Iowa State School of Veterinary Medicine in 1986. She joined Annabessacook shortly thereafter, becoming a partner and developing the practice into what it is today. She is an accomplished equine and small animal surgeon who is also focused on the latest in modern equine medicine. Dr. Brown also owns KDM Farm, an equine reproduction facility. Aside from Maine, she is licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Florida and Nebraska. When Dr. Brown is away from the clinic, she enjoys riding her horses or scuba diving in the warm waters of the sunny tropics.

Karilyn Bonney, VMD

Karilyn Bonney, VMD joined the equine team in September of 2011. She is originally from Wayne, Maine and has been enjoying practicing veterinary medicine in her home state since graduating from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary medicine. Karilyn’s focus is in equine medicine with a concentration on dentistry and ultrasound. She shares her spare time with her husband, Jim, and daughter, Marlee. She enjoys horseback riding and being outdoors.

Meghan Flanagan, DVM

Dr. Flanagan is a 2010 graduate of Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. She specializes in food and fiber animal (cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, etc) medicine. She enjoys ultrasound work as well as farm animal preventative care and surgery. When not working on dairy and beef cows in the area, she and her husband spend their time enjoying the outdoors in a variety of activities as well as gardening at home. They are happily settled in Livermore with their dog, cats, and flock of sheep.

Kelsey Hilton, VMD

Kelsey is a Maine native who grew up on a small farm in Starks where her family raised Hereford cattle, sheep, and horses. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2012 and practiced in central Maine before joining Annabessacook in 2015. She has broad interests, from dairy production work, goat medicine, camelid, and small ruminant care to equine internal medicine and ultrasound. She loves cows and horses, and spends her free time riding her warmblood mare, hiking, canoeing, and skiing.

Jana Zwetsloot, DVM

Jana Zwetsloot, DVM, or “Dr. Z,” grew up in Bucksport, but has spent a lot of time in Western and Southern Maine in recent years. She graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island in 2016 and now lives in North Monmouth with her husband, Mark, and son, Oliver. She enjoys all species and aspects of veterinary medicine and is happy to step in wherever needed. When she is not working, she enjoys running, snowboarding, cooking, traveling abroad, and spending time with her family.
Madgi Niedermeyer, DVM

Madgi Niedermeyer, DVM

Magdalena Niedermeyer, DVM is the intern veterinarian at Annabessacook, joining in June of 2019. She is originally from Buxton, Maine where her family runs a small farm with a herd of working dairy goats and a horse, as well as chickens, geese, and pigs. She is excited to be back in the area for a year after graduating from this spring from Tufts Veterinary School. Magdi is interested in equine, bovine, and small ruminant medicine; she is thrilled to have the opportunity to start her career with the mentorship of the accomplished veterinarians at Annabessacook Vet. When not working at the clinic, Magdi enjoys adventuring with her husband and cat, as well as hiking, running, reading, swimming, and spending time with her family in southern Maine.

Wynnie Angus, VMD

Wynnie is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine. Her primary veterinary interest is horses, despite her last name! However, she also likes working with sheep, goats, and cows. She is originally from Richmond, Virginia, but is now happily settled in Maine. She and her husband reside on a rapidly growing farm, where they enjoy spending time with their horses, dogs, cats, sheep, goats, and chickens.

Large Animal Staff

Kristie Hutchinson, Receptionist/Licensed Veterinary Technician

Kristie is a veteran at Annabessacook Veterinary Clinic, with experience in various positions in her tenure here at the clinic with her special touch in phlebotomy. She started as the sole Licensed Veterinary Technician for the three-doctor practice in 1990, and as the practice grew and developed into two distinct departments for Small Animal and Farm Animal clientele, she became the Large Animal Office Manager. She grew up riding horses through high school and competed briefly in the SUNY college circuit. Kristie has grown up with cats at her side throughout her childhood, but over the years she has turned to Dog Agility as a family sport with their Border Collies, Sofee, Apollo, and Midge. Kristie also opened a home-based business in 2002, “K’s Custom Embroidery” in Readfield, which specializes in unique and personalized embroidered garments and gifts. She also established a dog agility club in 2010 and enjoys playing with her dogs and her agility family, Agility Central of Maine. Kristie enjoys spending her free time with her husband, Mark, and their family snowshoeing, 4-wheeling, camping, gardening and kayaking, and in the quieter moments scrapbooking their family adventures.

Mel Merchant, Receptionist

Mel started with us as a receptionist in September of 2016. She worked for Annabessacook Vet as a large animal technician from 2004-2013! Mel now lives in New Sharon with her husband, Ray; her stepson, Levi; and her two dogs, Bailey and Remington. She also has two horses, Pooh and Belle, that she loves to ride in her spare time!

Bethany Drouin, Veterinary Assistant/Technician

Beth is a native of Monmouth and studied at the University of Southern Maine. She has been a major part of our equine team since 1998. At the clinic, you can find her running lab work and assisting the surgical team and any number of medical treatments. Beth lives with her husband, Chad, and their two children, Trent and Addison. They have a dog named Ralfie, a kitty named Lisbon, a horse named Prize, and a miniature horse named Charlie. Beth enjoys riding and spending time with her family, including mini-golfing with Trent and anything horse-related with Addie.

Felicia "Boo" Whitten, Veterinary Assistant/Technician

Boo joined our equine team in February of 2012. Boo is a native of Winthrop and has spent 11 years in the Army reserves. She also had two bachelor’s degrees. She currently works at R.T. Farms in her spare time. In her even sparer time, she enjoys hunting, boating, deep sea fishing, and riding her motorcycle. Boo shares her life with an adorable puppy named Chunk who befriends everybody; two kitties, Audie and Murphy; two bunnies, Cadbury and Fluffernutter; two chinchillas, RK and Ruby; and three horses, Tude, Rayne, and Sheba.

Marissa Hutchinson, Veterinary Assistant/Technician

Marissa began working with us as a large animal technician in 2013 after graduating from UMA Bangor. She enjoys working with all animals but has a special interest in horses. In her spare time, Marissa loves to hike, kayak, run, and spend time with her boyfriend Derek, family, and friends. She and Derek have three dogs, three cats, and 12 chickens. They are currently working towards starting a small farm of their own.

Small Animal Vets

Karen Lipovsky, DVM

Karen joined the Annabessacook Veterinary Clinic family in the summer of 2007 and has been focusing on small animal surgery, dentistry, and ultrasonic imaging. Exotic animals, such as rabbits, ferrets, and pocket pets, are a group of animals she also enjoys working with. She is a 2006 graduate of Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and grew up in Maryland, but she has been relishing the beautiful region of central Maine. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Lipovsky can be found performing in or watching a performance in Cumston Hall, or singing with the Maine music Society in Lewiston, kayaking, or jogging along the winding side roads with her husband, John. Her home is kept busy with her 16.5-year-old dog, Butternut, who doesn’t know she’s old enough to drive!

Barbara Perkins, DVM

Dr. Perkins has practiced farm animal and small animal medicine in Maine since graduating from Cornell University in 1983. She is focusing on dogs and cats at our clinic, providing a range of services from routine wellness exams, scheduled surgeries, and internal medicine work-ups to specialized surgeries such as tumor, anal sac, and thyroid gland removals as well as gastrointestinal tract surgery. Dr. Perkins and her husband live on a small farm in Leeds. They have two children, Walker and Emily. Dr. Perkins spends her free time caring for the animals at home including two dogs, four cats, a small flock of sheep, a small herd of beef cattle, laying hens, and broilers. Dr. Perkins also enjoys gardening, hiking, kayaking, cross-country skiing, and ski-joring. She looks forward to sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm in keeping your four-legged best friends healthy!

Karina Omark, DVM

Karina joined the AVC team in 2016. She was born and raised in New York City. After graduating from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1997, she moved to Maine and started practicing veterinary medicine. For many years she enjoyed the diverse challenges of a small animal clinician and the lifestyle that Maine had to offer. In 2011, Karina moved to The Netherlands with her family and enjoyed being a part of the Dutch culture and traveling extensively throughout Europe. After returning to the United States in 2016, she reconnected with her friends and colleagues at Annabessacook Veterinary Clinic and is happy to be a part of the team. When Karina is not practicing veterinary medicine, you will find her teaching yoga at various locations in Yarmouth and Portland as well as spending time with her family.

Karin Wilson, DVM

Karin is glad to be rejoining Annabessacook after many years away, mostly working in emergency medicine. She moved to Maine from upstate New York after graduating from Cornell University in 1999. Her major interests are still acute care medicine and surgery, but she is very happy to be back to a mix, with well pet care during daylight hours. On her days off, she enjoys cooking, gardening, skiing, skating, ice-boating, and hiking. She is currently helping her boyfriend rehabilitate their 33-foot steel sailboat

Small Animal Staff

Heather Urquhart, Receptionist

Heather is our Inventory Manager and she is also a Receptionist. Heather communicates with our product vendors to provide savings for the clinic and subsequently for our clients. Heather makes special orders of products not in stock at the clinic for our clients, and she addresses concerns and questions between our clients and our doctors. She has four pets: Dominick, a terrier/poodle cross; Shakes, a shiba inu; Purrsephonie, a bengal; and Beans, a tuxedo cat.

Gina Vashon, Receptionist

Gina is always available to answer questions and offer suggestions for you and your pet regarding scheduling and treatments at the clinic. Gina lives with her two dogs: Dawson, a beagle mix, and Parker, a dachshund mix, as well as her two cats, Calvin and Antonio. Gina enjoys hiking, reading and spending time with her family.
Mindy Wood, Receptionist - Monmouth, ME

Mindy Wood, Receptionist

Mindy joined Annabessacook’s team of receptionists in 2019. She has spent the last 18 years working as both a small animal and large animal technician. Having this experience proves to be invaluable as the person clients see first and last on a daily basis. Mindy spends her free time with her two black labs, Remington and Ruger. In her spare time, Mindy enjoys horseback riding, camping, and being outside.

Naomi Caswell, Receptionist

Naomi joined the receptionist team in February 2019. She lives in Gardiner with her husband; three dogs, Sammy, Charlie and Mandy; and three cats, Emma, Maggie and Willow. In her spare time, she loves to bake and knit. She also enjoys Sunday hikes with her father, his dog, and her dogs.
Patti Pratte, Animal Assistant - Monmouth, ME

Patricia Pratte, Animal Assistant

Patty owned a farm for 20 years, working with horses, cows, pigs, sheep, ducks, chickens, and geese. She attended Gorham College and U. of Maine, then became a substitute and assistant teacher for eight years. She was also a stay-at-home-mom and an interior and exterior painter. Patty even owned and operated Genesis Gym and Fitness Center for eight years. Outside of her diverse work background, she enjoys gardening, antiquing, reading, playing with her dog, and spending time with her children and granddaughter. As her previous work shows, she loves animals of all sorts. Her tradition of having animals continues, with several cats and large dogs, Brinkley the Great Pyrenees and Wolfrik the Hovawart (also a big dog!).

Carmen Fisher, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Carmen graduated from University College of Bangor in 2010 with an associate degree in Veterinary Technology and is a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Carmen grew up in Sabattus, Maine on her family’s dairy farm where she still works. She resides in Sabattus with her husband, Gerry, and two children, Gage and Iris. They also have two dogs, a cat, a rabbit, and a guinea pig. When she’s not working, Carmen enjoys baking, hiking, reading, and showing dairy cows competitively.
Molly Meader, LVT - Monmouth, ME

Molly Meader, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Molly graduated from the UCB vet tech program in 2007. Her career started in Alaska, where she worked for five years. Molly moved back to Maine in the summer of 2011. She worked at the Animal Emergency Clinic in Lewiston before joining us in 2017. Molly’s large fur family consists of two wonderful dogs and six sweet cats, all of which keeps her quite busy and entertained. She often says she couldn’t imagine working anywhere else!

Roslyn "Roz" Fine, Veterinary Technician

Roz has diverse training as a licensed esthetician as well as an associate degree and ASCP certification in phlebotomy (on humans!). She also took veterinary technician training. A native in New Jersey after being born in Texas, Roz eventually landed in Maine. She enjoys phlebotomy in the clinic on our variety of small patients and is particularly interested in both traditional and holistic medicine. Away from the clinic, Roz keeps busy with skiing on land or water, snowshoeing, and skijoring. Her family keeps her busy as well: son Garrett, daughter Veronica, and husband Greg. Her non-human family consists of two goats, two Aussies, two cats, fish, 12 chickens, and one young crow that has adopted her!

Shelby Fraser, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Shelby started working at Annabessacook Veterinary in May 2014. She is a graduate of The University of Maine in Bangor Veterinary technician program. As a Licensed Veterinary Technician, she brings a sense of humor as well as calm to all the situations and animals she encounters. She spends her free time with her husband and two children. Shelby is the proud owner of Groot the Brute, a very special white boxer, and her cat, Missy.

Nicole Loon, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Nichole joined our team in June 2015. She attended the University of Maine at Augusta’s Veterinary Technician program, earning her associate degree and graduating in May of 2015 as a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She currently lives in Wales with her life partner Shawn and their three fur babies: Molly the border collie, Gabriel the diabetic dachshund, and Clara the domestic short hair.

Charity Cram, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Charity has worked with us in the past but took a job at the Small Animal Emergency Clinic in Lewiston for a few years before rejoining our veterinary technician team in 2015! Charity has a variety of pets from cows and horses, to dogs and cats, to chickens and goats. Charity went to the University of NH for college. Charity enjoys riding her horses with her three children, and her husband Chris is very supportive of their habit!

Daisi Poole, Veterinary Technician

Daisi was born and raised in Monmouth, Maine! She graduated from Vermont Technical College in 2015 and has been working as a small animal vet tech ever since. Daisi spends her free time going on outdoor adventures like camping and fishing with her dog, Mason. Daisi also attends Love On A Leash visits with her Golden Retriever, Bentley!
Gail Manson, Licensed Veterinary Technician - Monmouth, ME

Gail Manson, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Gail started in our small animal clinic in January 2017. Gail worked at the emergency clinic in Lewiston Maine for 6 years before joining our team. Gail lives with her daughter, 2 dogs, 3 cats, and many chickens. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, gardening, fitness, paddle boarding, and family time.
